Theme for this Term
We shall be looking to the ‘stars’ for inspiration and learning this term as we look at aspects of planets, space, aliens, robots and monsters along with World Book Day, Shrove Tuesday and Easter.
If you are able to support any of these topics please have a chat with staff or bring in any resources we can look at using. Thank You
Some Dates for your Diary
World Book Day – March 7th Children are invited to bring their favourite book along to pre-school next week to share with the others in their story group. Please make sure the book is clearly labelled with your child’s name. All children will receive a £1 Book Token to spend in local Bookstores.
Parents Consultation Evening – April 8th 6.00 – 7.30pm Make a date with your child’s key person to share in their progress and development. Health Visiting Team Drop In Session – May 13th at 9.00am Come and have a chat with them regarding any concerns or queries you may have about your child. They are a good source of support and advice for parents of children up to the age of 5 years.

Easter Fund Raiser – Sunday 6th April at Ockbrook Cricket Club 2-4pm. There will be an Auction, Children’s Disco, Easter Egg Hunt, Chocolate Lucky Dip, Face Painting, Cake Stall and Children’s Hand Made Grass Heads to buy. If you have anything to donate for the auction please bring it into pre-school beforehand. More details to follow at a later date.
Items Wanted – We are looking for the following items to support our activities:
- Rolls of wallpaper – textured or plain not printed with a design as we are looking to use it for colouring or painting on allowing children to make large movements with brushes, wheels, hands & feet etc.
- Boxes for junk modelling e.g. cereal boxes, Pringle tubes, wash powder boxes
- A couple of large picture/photo frames
- Seeds or plants for the garden area e.g. tomatoes, courgettes, pansies, French beans
Can we please remind you not to send chocolates and sweeties in lunch boxes including desserts that have sweets with them e.g. Cadbury’s chocolate puddings with chocolate buttons. As part of our ongoing practice we are encouraging healthy eating with the children and there are lots of lovely yogurts and fromage frais desserts available that provide a healthy option as well as fresh fruit.
Reminder from staff
Please label children’s clothes with their name including hats and gloves. Also past practice has shown that when children are toilet training they are best dressed in easy to remove clothing such as trackie bottoms or leggings, please avoid belts, braces, dungarees, long dresses, tights and pants over pull ups.
If you are thinking of increasing your child’s sessions at pre-school please speak with Jane asap as some sessions are now fully booked for the remainder of this year. Remember that children are funded for 15 hours a week the term after their 3rd birthday and you will need to get these reserved if you intend to use these hours at Ridings Pre-School.
Thank You to everyone who has offered to take the pre-school laundry over the last few months, this has been a big help. If you would like to help out please put your name on the rota on the Parent’s Information Board. Its only a bag of towels, tea towels, rags and needs No Ironing.
