Learning for this Term
Over the first 3 weeks of term we are looking at occupations of people who help us and have visitors coming into the setting including the crossing patrol man from Bare Lane, an Elvaston Castle Park Ranger, a paramedic and a beautician. We are also looking at Mothers Day and World Book Day.
World Book Day March 2nd – 6th. Please encourage your child to bring in their favourite story book during this week so they can share it with their friends at story time.
Mothers Day – Please remember to bring in a pressie to go into the Lucky Dip. See separate letter already sent out. During this week we shall be talking about how people including mummies help us and about saying Thank You to those who take on this special role.
Beautician’s Visit (6/3/15)- She may paint some of the children’s finger nails. Please let us know if you would prefer your child not to be included in this activity.
Nature Hunt – We have had some lovely Nature Hunt’s returned this week and the children have told us about where and how they collected all their items. This supports their learning in remembering and talking with others about experiences with family members.
Laundry Rota – Could I ask you to look at the laundry rota to see when you can take the weeks washing for us. It is just a bag full of towels, tea towels and rags that don’t need ironing. Please don’t leave it just for the Friday parents as it can be taken earlier than Friday and returned asap. If each family took the laundry once that would be the whole year covered. A HUGE THANK YOU to those of you who already do this for us and especially those who take it at short notice on Fridays.
Dolls and Toys – Can I please remind you to deter your child from bringing toys etc. to pre-school as we have a number of losses recently. Any toys brought in need to fit into your child’s drawer for safe keeping and ideally should be labelled with your child’s name. If your child has a security toy/cloth etc. please allow them to bring these in as they provide comfort.
EYFS Workshop – March 17th. This is filling up fast and we are looking forward to sharing with you what we do with your children at pre-school and what makes Ridings Pre-School different to other settings locally. If you want to come and be part of this evening please return your slip ASAP.
Maintenance Work– As you may have noticed around the setting we have been busy carrying out some jobs to improve the building and equipment. We have some new skirting board in the kitchen and have treated some damp work in the kitchen and playroom. There is a new climbing wall in the playground that has been made and installed by Paul Cooper, the money from the Nature Hunt will contribute towards the purchase of materials for this. The water play area is having new wall and floor surfaces installed over Easter and we are having the kitchen and all the windows painted over the next few weeks.
We are also busy looking into applying for grants for a new playhouse and to have the kitchen floor repaired and new vinyl in place.
Setting Spring Clean and Spruce-up Day – We are looking for parents to help us on June 14th with our annual spring clean in order to do a number of jobs that will help to spruce up the setting and keep it looking good and well cared for. Jobs including cutting back the hedge, cleaning windows and giving the shed a coat of preservative are just some of the jobs necessary to keep this old building safe and sound. As a registered charity and a setting who actively encourages parent partnerships we are looking for as many parents as possible to help out in order that we do not have to pay for people to come and do these jobs. Please put this date in your diary and look out for the note with more details when it arrives in your child’s pre-school drawer. ’ We will be supplying tea and biscuits for all helpers!!!!!!
Health Visiting Team Drop-In Session will be onMarch 5th at 9-00am for anyone who wants to have a chat with her regarding any concerns or advice on their child.
Congratulations – Belated Congratulations to Jo & Sarah who attended their Graduation Ceremony at Derby Arena in January. Well Done to you both on achieving your Foundation Degree.
Sainsburys Active Kids Vouchers – We are now collecting these vouchers. Please tell your family and friends so that we can collect as many as possible for purchasing resources for the children.
Car Parking – Can you please consider other road users when parking to bring and collect children. Wherever possible can you park on Church Street or in the Queens Head or Parish Rooms car parks.
