Topic for this Term – FOOD
Over the next few weeks we shall base our learning opportunities around the theme of ‘Food’. This will include our favourite foods, foods from around the world, buying and selling food and food for celebrations. The final 3 weeks of term will focus on the build up to Christmas with lots of creative activities. At home you could talk with your child about what they like to eat and introduce aspects of healthy food and those things are not so good for us. Encourage your child to try new foods or help with cooking and baking at home.
During the week beginning November 23rd we are having a Culture week and we would like to invite you to bring in some food that is a favourite with your child. We will then share this with all the other children who are in during that session so that they can experience different foods they might not have eaten before.
Also on the topic of food we would like you to bring in packaging from foods that your child likes to eat. We will then be using this to create a display of foods that are popular with the pre-schools children.
We have been invited to take part in a Parish bulb planting activity on Thursday November 19th. The children will help to plant tulip bulbs around the cenotaph on Victoria Avenue. These are being planted in memory of the fallen in World War 1. We shall be taking as many of the children in during that mornings’ session as possible and have invited a number of parents and grandparents to help us with this venture. If your child does not attend on this day but you would like to join us please contact Jane for details.
We shall be having the children’s Christmas party on Wednesday 16th December at 11.00am. All children are invited to come and take part in the fun and games. If they do not attend on Thursdays they can still join us if they use the booking slip that will be in your child’s drawer in the next couple of weeks.
This will be held on Thursday December 17th at 2.45pm. This is a very popular event in the settings calendar as your children will sing their Christmas songs to you and your invited guests. It is always a lovely event for getting everyone into the spirit of Christmas. Further details will be sent out nearer the time.
Cold Weather Clothing
Please remember to bring your child to pre-school in clothing that is suitable for the weather as we can play outside each day as long as everyone is dressed appropriately. Please name all mittens and hats clearly with your child’s name. Wellington boots worn to walk to pre-school can be left by your child’s coat hook and clipped together with a name peg. Please bring indoor shoes or slippers to wear inside.
Nationwide Building Society
Thank You to everyone who voted for us in the Nationwide Community Fund Raising Activity. The GREAT NEWS is that we have won this event and will shortly be receiving £600 from them to be spent on maintenance projects within the pre-school. WHOOP WHOOP.
Health Visiting Services Drop In
We have recently heard from the local health visiting team that they are unable to provide a drop in session at present as they are short of staff. We will speak with them in a few weeks to follow up on this missed opportunity.
This meeting took place in October and we now have a new committee of parents and staff as well as a Fund Raising Team. Sally Urquhart is the new Chair Person, Claire King the treasurer and Fiona Pacel is the secretary. I would like to Thank everyone who put their name forward to support the pre-school either on the Business Team or as a Fund Raiser. Without these volunteers we could not continue to function as a pre-school.
Please keep an eye out for future Fund Raising Activities that will be coming soon……….
