Happy New Year to You All and welcome back to another year at Ridings Pre-School. On behalf of the staff team I would like to convey Thanks for the gifts you brought the staff for Christmas – I know they were greatly appreciated.

Theme for this term is Weather. We shall be working with the children as they learn about the weather by looking at seasons of the year and how this affects us including the clothes we wear at different times of year and the impact that weather has on some animals. Alongside this we shall be making some resources that are affected by weather. If you would like to support this topic in any way please let us know.  You can support your child’s learning by looking each day at the weather and talking about how this might affect what they wear or where they play on that day. You could also feed the garden birds with your child and give them explanations as to why you are doing this.

Fund Raising activities have enabled us to make a number of new purchases recently for the children. This has included the Hollow Blocks with storage and 2 new scooters. The Christmas Hamper & Reindeer Dust made £121.00 and the Bags2school raised £42.00.

The Christmas Hamper was won by Charlotte Kenny – Well Done Charlotte

Thank You to Everyone who supported these activities.

The Fund Raising Team are looking for any parents who would be interested in joining them as they plan and carry out some fund raising for the pre-school. This requires just a short amount of time and you may have skills that could contribute towards this groups work. This is an extremely important role within the pre-school as we are Charitable organisation that relies heavily on monies raised to support the purchase of resources for the children.

MailChimp has been successfully rolled out over the last few weeks and has already proven to be extremely useful for a number of parents. It allows us to get messages out to you quickly and all at the same time and at the same time it reduces the cost of paper and ink. If you haven’t yet signed up to this service please see Jane for an application form so you can be added to the system. This the last newsletter we shall send out in paper form unless you specifically requests to receive a hard copy. You can find a copy of each Newsletter on the Parents Information Board in pre-school.

This year the pre-school celebrates 50 years as a provider of care and education to children of Ockbrook and the surrounding areas. Over this time there have been many changes to the way it operates and to the building itself. During the year we shall be celebrating this anniversary in a number of different ways including a Garden Party during the summer. If you know of anyone who has been connected with the pre-school during its life time please ask them to get in touch with us to share their experiences.

If you know of anyone who has had involvement with the setting during this time please give them our phone number and ask them to give us a call so they can share their experiences.

Absence from pre-school – If your  child receives Government Funding and is off from pre-school either for a family holiday or through illness can you please let us know so we can let you have the appropriate form to complete. This is a requirement of DCC as they allocate our funding and make checks on children’s attendance.

Sharing Books with your child supports early reading skills. We have a box of books kept outside at the start of the day that you are welcome to select from and take home to share with your child. Just complete the details in the exercise book on the table and return the book within a couple of weeks.

Parking – We have spoken with the new Landlords at the Queens Head Pub and they have agreed that parents can park in their car park at drop off and collection times. They just ask that you park with due consideration to their paying customers and that from time to time you pop in for a drink.

Laundry – Are you able to help us by taking the weekly laundry bag of rags and tea towels for a wash and dry. Please see the rota on the Parents Information Board for dates needing to be filled. Please help us by completing this small task; if each family did this once each year that would virtually fill the rota.

Outdoor Learning & Paddock Trips start again soon. Please remember to dress your child appropriately for these outings so they can enjoy them without worrying about being cold or wet.
